Advice for President Obama

The NY Times recently posted an op-ed by Jory John, program director at 826 Valencia, a nonprofit writing and tutoring center that daily provides approximately 65 kids with homework help after the school day ends.

Looking to channel the kids’ energy in the days following the national election, Jory and his tutors asked the kids to write down any advice they would offer President Barack Obama as he takes over the duties of the Oval Office.

Kids are funny. And, full of sage wisdom. My favorite?

Dear President/Mr. Obama,

The best thing about living in the White House would be running around like a maniac. The thing I would like least is the work.

— Holly Wong, age 9, San Francisco

Apparently, you’ll be able to read more kid advice in Jory’s forthcoming book, Thanks and Have Fun Running the Country: A Collection of Kids’ Letters to President Obama. Their letters will appear alongside creative portraits of Obama.

I don’t know about you, but the kid advice seems a lot more entertaining than the advice coming from all the political talking heads these days…

Hmmm, Holly sounds like a Democrat.

I do have some advice for Barry, and that is: follow my example when I took office… seriously, look at the wonderful job I did.

    Yours humbly,
